After five raucous, wildly popular television seasons, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone finally he galloped off into the sunset. Fans know this is far from the end of the franchise, though; prequel series 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, will return for its second and final season in February 2025, while spinoffs 1944, Madison (starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox), an untitled sequel on the story of Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), and possibly "6666" are on the way. Yellowstone, for better or worse, isn't going anywhere.

One person unlikely to set foot on the ranch again is Kevin Costner, the star whose John Dutton III was the driving force behind the original series. Costner and Sheridan's happy creative marriage hit the rocks hard when the duo couldn't figure out how the former would be able to shoot his western film epic "Horizon: An American Saga" while fulfilling obligations to Yellowstone. This ended with Costner leaving the show, which resulted in Sheridan writing it off by having a group of killers take out John.

Immediately following the episode with Dutton's death (which at first appeared to be a suicide), Costner told radio host Michael Smerconish that he had not seen it. "I heard it was suicide," he said, "So that doesn't make me rush to go see him." However, fans couldn't help but wonder if the star made it through the mini-season and checked out the finale. Thanks to the Daily Mailthey finally have their answer.

If you were hoping that Costner had softened his stance on Sheridan and the Yellowstone franchise, you can absolutely forget about it. "I don't think about (the finale)," Costner said. "I don't think I've thought about it, we'll just let it go."

This sounds an awful lot like the classic workout meme"I'm not mad. Please don't put it in the paper that I got mad." Costner has a reputation for being prickly in interviews, and added reason to be threatened because the finished second installment of "Horizon: An American Saga" was pulled from New Line's release schedule when the first film, partially financed by the star, earned just 38, $2 million on a $50 million budget (after receiving mostly negative reviews). There is still no word on when "Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2" will hit theaters and what will happen to the promised third and fourth chapters of the epic.

As such, it's understandable that Costner would take a look Sheridan's rapidly expanding Yellowstone universe and I feel a little harsh about it. Then again, he makes movies, and he won Best Picture and Best Director Oscars for Dances With Wolves to prove his mastery of the craft. It was a less than ideal creative process, but we're rooting for Costner.
