Stephen King is not only one of the most prolific authors of the last 50 years, he is also one of our most voracious readers. For a man who has been writing at more than a book-a-year pace ever since the 1974 release of Carrie. it's amazing that he still manages to find time to read somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 books between January and December. How does it do that? Have you ever seen the man sitting in the stands at a Boston Red Sox game? He always has a book open while taking in his favorite Major League Baseball team. (And judging by King's countless TV endorsementshe also watches a lot of tube!)
This is especially noticeable when you consider that many authors lament that they cannot find time to read more than one or two books a year, as it would distract them from finishing theirs. So when you're browsing books at your local bookstore (hopefully you still have one of those) and come across a novel with a King quote on the cover, know that it's not just a quote about a quote. ; the man actually read and enjoyed the book in your hand.
So as you do some last-minute holiday shopping this week and find yourself searching for a must-see novel for the bookworm in your life, maybe consider the latest from Liane Moriarty as King suggests!
King digs up the latest page-turner from Liane Moriarty
Liane Moriarty has been one of the most popular novelists on the planet since her book The Man's Secret became a New York Times bestseller in 2013. She scored an even bigger hit the following year with Big Little Lies, which went on to become an Emmy-winning Primetime HBO hit series starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern (albeit one that there is an incredibly gruesome scene in the courtroomas noted by /Film in the past). 10 years later, almost everything she writes is a landmark book, but King thinks her offering for 2024 is particularly formidable.
"HERE'S A MOMENT, Liane Moriarty: The premise is compelling - a woman on a flight from Hobart to Sydney begins to predict the age and manner of death of her fellow passengers. Beautifully written, this propulsive novel has serious subject matter. It could make a great Christmas present for that special someone."
Even though the New York Times and the Guardian didn't go as high on Here's a Moment as King, that hook is enough to make me consider reading it. Throw in the praise of the King of Horror, and it's about as close to a clincher as you can get. The book has been selling briskly since its release last September, but now sales could be overblown. If you're a Big Little Lies fan, what are you waiting for?
