Walter Hobbs is Elf's true hero, never going on the naughty list.

Will Ferrell Elf It is the most watched Christmas movie of the modern era and one of the best holiday movies of all time. It's a simple story told in such a straightforward fashion that Buddy Elf's father, Walter Hobbs, is the only person with a character in it.

In the introduction we are told that Walter Hobbs (played by James Caan) is on the naughty list. When Buddy finds him, everything seems designed to make sure he's supposed to be there. Walter's character drives the story, not Buddy's. Buddy is the same person at the end of the movie as he was at the beginning. But Walter is expected to transition from a villain to a loving father who embraces the spirit of Christmas.

Unless otherwise, this will never happen. Walter Hobbs was never a bad man. Shouldn't have been on the naughty list. He is the real hero. ElfAnd I confirm.

We will begin by taking each example of Scrooge-like behavior one by one.

Walter Hobbes only cares about his work

In the beginning we are introduced to Walter Hobbs who is a workaholic who spends all his time on his career and taking care of his family. At one point, the boy belittled him by accusing him of only thinking about money. His wife accused him of neglecting his son.

But that's not what happens on screen. We see Walter Hobbes Elf He is home in time for dinner every night. Sure enough, once, after a very rough day, he wanted to eat in his man cave. The man was in great distress. This is not normal because the child decides to eat as if it were something new, wondering if he can reproduce his father's behavior.

One night of eating alone did not make Walter Hobbes a devil.

In fact, it is clear that Hobbes does not care about his work. The quality of the work is absolute rubbish. He was caught deliberately signing in bad print, a clear sign that he doesn't care and hates working there.

Every time we see him at the table, Walter seems to wish for death.

Walter does not care about his work, so he signed on for a sharp job

So why is it there? Someone has to pay the bills.

Walter Hobbs gets up every day and goes to a job he hates to help his family. He's home for dinner every night, and it seems, he almost always eats at the table with his family. What a monster.

Walter Hobbs disapproves of Buddy.

When Buddy Elf arrives at Walter's office, he is confused. The shock of the situation knocked Buddy out a few times. There is no reason to believe him. The man is dressed as an elf and talking about Santa. Apparently, he is some kind of mental patient. Any reasonable person would have thought it could be dangerous.

To make matters worse, Buddy convinces Walter that he is his son by sending him sexy underwear. This must be when Walter questions whether Buddy's true intentions might have a strange sexual connotation. Almost anyone else would have called the cops, but not kind-hearted Walter Hobbs. Instead, he decided to give Buddy a chance.

Walter received a gift of underwear

Walter pays Buddy to get him out of jail and takes him to a clinic where he is examined. The smart thing to do when a 40-year-old man you've never met before shows up at your door claiming to be your next of kin. The moment the test confirms that Buddy is his son, Walter talks about the face and invites this man he's never met into his home.

All of this is in the midst of a strange behavior that would probably make Buddy commit to a kind and ruthless man like his father. Not Buddy's fault, of course. He means well, but Walter has no way of knowing that.

Walter does not respond when he sees that Buddy has destroyed the furniture

Despite Buddy's strangeness, Walter sees the man inside and decides to trust him around his family. Walter is very forgiving, except when he jokes about how much Buddy loves the snow, and he doesn't even run away when Buddy starts tearing down the house.

His solution to Buddy's loss was not to throw him away, but to find a way to take care of him. He asks his wife to stay home with him and supervise. If she can't, Walter Hobbs puts his genius son to work.

In the mail room, Walter stuck a colleague

Buddy and Walter at work

Buddy Elf is an unemployed adult with no place to live and no prospects. He needs a job, so Walter Hobbes uses his company's influence to get him.

Buddy has no work history and experience, which means he is not qualified to work anywhere other than in the mail room. Walter got a job there.

Buddy Elf humiliated his father by drinking

It's a success in a way. Buddy has a great time in the mailroom, making new ones Friends And he gets paid. However, he embarrasses his father by drunkenly dancing on a table.

Walter doesn't overreact. He keeps his head down and goes on with his life as best he can.

Walter yells at Buddy.

Walter's job is on the line, and he knows it. He's clawing his way through years of thankless work in an awkward industry, and it's taking a toll.

Walter's employees are useless and lazy, but he has a solution. He brought in a crack writer to give them the volume they needed to write a best-selling book at a huge expense.

If the busy buddy at the post office hadn't gotten drunk, the busy buddy getting his paycheck would have been in for a much worse time. Then for no reason Walter can see, he starts insulting Walter's guest. Soon, the shouting goes off and it becomes a full-on physical confrontation. All Walter could do was stand and watch in horror.

Badi participated in the attack

Walter Peach's meeting has just gone awry, his son has committed an assault on the company premises, and it's all happening in front of his staff. Add another workplace disgrace to his name.

Only in that moment does Walter Hobbs finally get angry after days of humiliation, abuse and the flatulence of an unknown adult. He yells at Buddy to get out, and after Buddy leaves, he tries to find some way to save his name and his job.

Walter Hobbs works on Christmas Eve

OK, but what about his lack of interest in Christmas? Things really fall apart when Walter goes to work on Christmas Eve.

Except, Walter never wanted to be there. When his boss tells him he has to work on Christmas Eve, Walter immediately balks. He tried to refuse, but his boss threatened to fire him. His choice is to go to work or find another job to feed his child. No one wants to be out of work at Christmas so he did the job. That's not rude behavior, that's being a responsible adult.

Walter's boss

That's when little Buddy the elf came running in screaming. Walter is embarrassed in front of his boss but remains quiet. He defends his son when the boss talks to him.

Meanwhile, Buddy Elf is a big man. A grown man who proved he could take care of himself by walking from the North Pole to New York. For the fifth or sixth time in the film, he is wandering around New York, and there is no reason to think that he is in danger.

Walter Hobbs puts his son first

The child overeats, and Walter knows it. Realizing that the boy was worried, he told him that he would take care of him and asked him to wait outside until he finished. The son refuses to obey his father and starts yelling at him, adding another career humiliation to his Rhyme story.

Any other parent would have taken their child out of the room and kept him for a year, but compassionate Walter gave in. His family didn't seem to care about him or his work and he found out weeks and weeks later. Humiliated by them, he gave up trying to make a living.

The real villages of the elf

Walter Hobbs is no slouch. He is an introvert who does not share his feelings, but this does not make him a bad person.

Walter Hobbs is abused and humiliated, yelled at and touched inappropriately by an older man in tights who decides to give him an unwanted tickle. Walter never breaks down. He keeps it together and soldiers on. After weeks of abuse, he has a small outburst and tries to fix it right away.

Elf It is full of scary people. Miles Finch is a sly egomaniac. Walter Crack's writing team are lazy sycophants. His secretary is a cat-killing psychopath. The boss is an idiot.

santa claus
The true villain of the elf

And instead of telling Walter Hobbs he has a son who knows who Santa is, he leaves him to be raised by an elf. Adding insult to injury, Santa has spent a few decades putting Walter on the naughty list and putting coal under Walter's tree every year so that the elves can trick Buddy.

There are villains inside. Elf. Walter Hobbs is not one of them.
