Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1996 Christmas movie became a streaming hit on premiere video

After spending the 80s and early 90s, he became the preeminent action star of his generation and feuding with Sylvester Stallone for the titleArnold Schwarzenegger spent the latter half of the '90s trying to prove he could pull off charming family fare — and wouldn't you know it, he could. Of course, a man who came from a small Austrian town and conquered bodybuilding, married Kennedy, became a movie star, and launched a successful career in American politics was never really going to struggle with something as trivial as career rebranding. So '90s kids were treated to all kinds of surprisingly decent family comedies, from Kindergarten Cop to Christmas favorite Jingle All the Way.

Don't let that happen 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes I kid you not: Jingle all the Way not only delighted kids of my generation, but also had something for adults, capitalizing on the rampant commercialism that turned Christmas from a time of peace and togetherness into a frantic race for the latest toy. In my day it was Power Rangers and Pokémon, not to mention Tickle Me Elmo. For Schwarzenegger's Howard Langston, it was Turbo Man - the latest action figure that his son, Jamie (Jake Lloyd), simply has to have for Christmas. In order to make up for being a somewhat neglectful father and husband, Howard makes it his mission to find the wanted action figure and provide hilarity and hijinks.

As well as Schwarzenegger's surprisingly adept comedic performance, "Jingle All the Way" also featured the late, great Phil Hartman as Howard's brilliantly cranky neighbor Ted Maltin. All in all, this '90s Christmas classic is another reason not to take Rotten Tomatoes so seriously. Now, Prime Video subscribers are confirming that fact, sending "Jingle All the Way" up the holiday season's most-watched charts and reminding us all that it remains one of the best Christmas movies of all time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is ringing his way to the top of the Prime Video charts

At the same time as Arnold Schwarzenegger and 'Reacher' star Alan Ritchson are filming their upcoming Christmas comedy"Jingle All the Way" has soared into Prime Video's most watched rankings to remind us all that the Austrian star is more than capable of handling these family Christmas flicks.

According to FlixPatrolsite that tracks and aggregates viewership data across streaming services, "Jingle All the Way" arrived on the charts at number seven on December 14, 2024 — which is actually a little later than I might have expected. Of course, in an age where streaming has provided a steady cavalcade of mediocre holiday movies, it's understandable that audiences' attention spans might be a little more divided than they used to be.

However, Schwarzenegger's classic Christmas outing has not only charted, it has climbed through the ranks since its debut. On December 15, it reached number six, before jumping to the third position on December 16. The film has been hovering around that spot ever since, falling to number four on December 18th before rising as Turbo Man himself - or indeed, Turbo Man of the Iron Age, Jesus Christ - to retake number three once again on December 19th.

Can Turbo Man beat The Rock?

Christmas is a pretty competitive time when it comes to movies. Not only do you have your classic Christmas fare vying for attention - from the movie IMDb claims is the best Christmas movie ever'It's a Wonderful Life', to modern classics such as 'Elf' - now you have things like "Red One," Dwayne Johnson's holiday outing that was kind of a box office flop (but not really). That film has remained at the top of Prime Video's charts since its release on the service after the anticlimactic blockbuster, and nothing seems to be able to dethrone it at this point.

Queen Latifah nailed it with her forgettable Christmas rom-com Last Holiday. and John Candy is currently having a crack at it with the excellent Uncle Buck hitting the Prime Video charts. So far, though, Arnie is the only one who might have a shot at dethroning "The Red." "Jingle All the Way" may be in a weak position at number three, but it has been steadily climbing through the ranks since December 14, 2024, and may be able to take that top spot by the end of the week.

Although "Jingle all the way" remains a a classic Christmas movie that didn't need a sequelwe eventually got a direct-to-video follow-up starring Larry the Cable Man in 2014. so Larry is the one to finally dethrone The Rock, I think we have a duty to do that.
