Skeleton Crew Episode 4 brings some serious Fallout vibes to the Star Wars universe

The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 4 "Can't Say I Remember No Attlin."

As Jodh Na Naud (Jude Law) tries to locate Atlin and bring back Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), K.B. his own goals, Onyx Ash lands on a planet that is shockingly similar, yet completely different. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 4, "Can't Say I Remember No Attlin," reveals that the eponymous planet is also of great interest to other space pirates, namely SM-33 (voiced by Nick Frost) a mysterious an old captain who made sure to leave a few surprises for the people trying to follow his footsteps to the mysterious world. For this episode, however, the action takes place on At Achrann - a post-apocalyptic, warring version of Attlin that serves as a surprisingly dark entry in the series of planets that make up the so-called Jewel of the Old Republic.

The Skeleton Crew enjoys paying tribute to other projects, and At Achrann adds a big helping of Fallout to the overall feel of the Star Wars show. With Attlin's debut, viewers were introduced to a retro-futuristic suburb that bears similarities to the pre-nuclear world of Fallout. With At Achrann, we get the "after" part of the picture, and the ravaged planet looks a lot like the wasteland where most of the Fallout franchise's narrative takes place. The planet's eternal state of conflict even seems to nod to the familiar order of the Fallout property: “War. "War never changes."

Could Skeleton Crew's mysterious planets be similar to Fallout's vaults?

The interesting thing about the show's heightened "Fallout" vibes is that Episode 4 also confirms several other hidden "gem" worlds: At Aytuu, At Atrissia, At Aravin, and At Acoda. Since Attin and At Achrann have virtually identical locations, it makes sense to assume that the others do as well. Both planets share an eerie "Supervisor's Tower", which hides interesting information and serves a mysterious purpose.

Given Fallout's influence on both of them Jewelry of the Old Republic we have seen, it is easy to wonder whether the identical planets and their formidable watchtower towers are secretly similar to the vaults. In Fallout, vaults are massive nuclear shelters which are supposedly meant to help their inhabitants survive through the apocalypse. In reality, however, residents are subjected to all kinds of harsh tests and (sometimes literally) inhumane conditions, generally overseen by the Overseer's office.

As it stands, this theory makes a surprising amount of sense. Calm, controlled Atlin and chaotic Ahran are virtually identical, but their inhabitants are subject to dramatically different conditions, and their overseer's towers seem to serve a similar narrative purpose as the Overseer's offices in the Vaults do. Athleen's reputation as a treasure house might even indicate that it is a control "vault" that has been spared the dire fates of other jewels... although, given the strange bureaucratic devotion the planet has to the so-called Great Thing, it could very well be well to conduct a strange experiment of his own. Future episodes of "Skeleton Crew" will reveal what life is like for the other gems of the Old Republic, and we'll see how far down the "Fallout" rabbit hole the show is willing to crawl.
