A karate kid and a Cobra Kai villain won't be back for the legends

Karate Kid: Legends will tie together all the movies and TV shows in the Karate Kid franchisewith Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) team up to bridge the gap between the OG Karate Kid films and the 2010 film reboot. The upcoming film takes place after the events of "Cobra Kai" and will focus on the aforementioned sensei as they pass on their wisdom to a new student — and they can find solace in knowing they won't have to deal with a villain who made LaRusso's life a living hell from the 1980s.

While speaking of "Kyle Meredith with..." Martin Cove has discussed the possibility of him reprising his role as John Criss in the upcoming Karate Kid movie. The Karate Kid original trilogy and Cobra Kai veteran revealed that he wasn't invited to be a part of the festivities, but he doesn't seem to hold any ill will towards the film's creators and stars. In your own words:

"It's a well-kept secret." I haven't talked to Ralph about it; will (...) Ralph went for about 10 days, did that, and that was it. members) were invited to come and play when I'm not invited, it's okay, because I know why: they invite trouble.

Of course, seeing as Karate Kid: Legends takes place after the events of Cobra Kai, it's possible that Chris is either dead or in prison by the time the movie starts, so that's something to think about. Furthermore, the film appears to be more concerned with moving the Karate Kid franchise into the future, with new characters taking center stage.

What to expect from Karate Kid: Legends

"Karate Kid: Legends" will see Mr. Han join forces with Daniel LaRusso to help kung fu and karate prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) settle in America. A teenager moves from Beijing to New York after experiencing a tragedy at home, and let's just say he doesn't get along with all of his new classmates. Get the teenager to fight some of the toughest bruisers in the Big Apple.

The plot synopsis echoes the original Karate Kid film, which focuses on LaRusso fighting bullies after moving to California from New Jersey. Both films are stories about outsiders who find themselves with the odds stacked against them as they try to navigate a new environment. With that in mind, it's understandable why Daniel is willing to take on another student, despite vowing to retire from karate after the Sekai Taikai tournament in "Cobra Kai" season 6.

While Karate Kid: Legends is mostly looking forward, that doesn't mean the franchise won't take the past down. Cobra Kai set up Mr. Miyagi's prequel series perfectly about his younger years, and the show's creators have been open about their desire to make spin-offs set in this universe. Who knows - maybe they'll even find a place for John Criss in one of them?

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 premieres on February 13, 2025 on Netflix. The Karate Kid: Legends will hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
