The Mega Millions jackpot is approaching a billion dollars after its latest drawing did not produce a top prize winner.

The lottery said Tuesday night's drawing did not have any players with tickets matching all the numbers, pushing the jackpot down to $825 million annuitized. As a one-time cash payment, it amounts to $382.2 million.

The jackpot is poised to become the fourth Mega Millions top prize win of 2024 if someone hits it before the end of the year, according to the lottery.

The three jackpot wins that Mega Millions has seen so far this year occurred in mid-September, early June and late March. They are worth $810 million, $552 million and $1.128 billion, respectively.

The Top prize $1.128 billionwon in March and still unclaimed, is the biggest lottery of the year so far and the only one to reach 10 figures in 2024 so far, according to Mega Millions.

The $825 million jackpot now up for grabs "would be the largest prize ever won in December and the seventh largest in Mega Millions history" if someone matches all six numbers this month, Mega Millions said.

The drawing that has been going on since September, when the Mega Millions jackpot was most recently won, has produced a lot low level lottery winners. Fifty-one people have scored windfalls of at least $1 million, and others have received smaller amounts, the lottery reported.

Mega Millions plans to conduct its next drawing for the $825 million top prize on Friday evening. The odds of winning a nine-figure jackpot are about 1 in 302.6 million.

The Powerball lottery also has a rolling jackpot, although it is currently much smaller than Mega Millions'.

The jackpot for Powerball hovers around $69 million heading into its Wednesday night drawing. Its cash value is $32.2 million, according to the lottery.
