The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, managed to draw the rain-affected third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series against the Australian team. However, the Men in Blue managed to maintain their third position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table.
The third Test between India and Australia, played at The Gabba in Brisbane, ended in a draw on Wednesday, December 18. Rain affected four of the five days, except Day 2. The series is 1-1, with India winning the first Test by 295 runs and Australia securing a 10-wicket win in the second.
Travis Head named man of the match for his century
Earlier, Australia scored 445 runs in the first innings after being asked to bat first. Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101) made significant contributions with the bat. For India, Jasprit Bumrah picked up six wickets for 76 runs. India then successfully avoided a follow-on in the Test match in Brisbane.
The Indian team scored 260 in 78.5 overs after a crucial 47-run partnership between Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah for the last wicket. Notably, Australia posted their second innings 89/7. However, only 2.1 overs were possible in India's second innings due to inclement weather at the Gabba on Wednesday.
The fourth Test between India and Australia is scheduled to begin on Thursday, December 26, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The winner of the Boxing Day Test match cannot lose the series.
