Why Marc Cucurella was sent off after Chelsea's win over Brentford

Marc Cucurella received a second yellow card after Chelsea's 2-1 win over Brentford for an "aggressive attitude", Premier League match center confirmed.

Cucurella scored the first goal in Chelsea's triumph but his celebrations were cut short after the final whistle when he was shown a yellow card which, when added to the caution he picked up deep in stoppage time, led to a dismissal.

After suffering a head injury to disrupt Brentford's attack shortly before the final whistle, Cucurella attracted the frustration of a number of players as the game drew to a close, with a clash with Kevin Schade eventually leading to yellow cards for both players.

"The referee issued a second yellow card to Cucureli due to his aggressive attitude," the league's press release stated. "Schade was also fined for the same offense."

Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca admitted he was surprised to learn of Cucurella's caution and admitted his frustration at losing the full-back to an unnecessary suspension.

"I didn't see another yellow card," Maresca said. "The referee said the second yellow card was for a bad attitude. There are things we can do better."

Cucurella's theatrics also drew a reaction from Brentford manager Thomas Franco.

"I think Cucurella is a top player, he's doing well," Frank said. "But I don't like it when players go to the ground and hold their faces. I'll say Cucurello because I have a lot of respect for him."
