The 7 best Premier League players of Gameweek 16

The absence of Darragh-like conditions meant we were treated to a full range of Premier League action over the weekend.

However, storm clouds loomed over Molineux and St. Mary's following Wolves' defeat by Ipswich Town and the humiliation of Southampton on Sunday night. And Gary O'Neil and Russell Martin are now out of their jobs and Wolves are turning to Jorge Mendes in the hope of finding a suitable successor for O'Neil.

Much of the discourse surrounding the weekend's action focused on Sunday's derby in Manchester between two vulnerable units. A tepid affair sprang to life in the closing stages thanks to Matheus Nunes' low-hitting return pass, the man who took advantage of Nunes' error pointing 90 min seven leading lights of the Premier League Gameweek 16.

Diogo Jota

Liverpool don't usually 'run away' with a point at Anfield, but Andy Robertson's early dismissal meant Arne Sloto's league leaders were forced to work incredibly hard for a point against Fulham.

The Reds trailed 1-0 and 2-1 on Saturday, but the returning Jota ensured they shared the spoils six-and-a-half minutes after entering the fray. With Darwin Nunez struggling for goals, the Portugal international's return from injury is a huge boost for Liverpool.

Jota's equalizer was masterfully worked, the wily striker outwitting Jorge Cuenco with one fluid move before slotting past Bernd Leno with a calm finish.

Grandpa Spence

It took just 881 days, but Spence's first start at Tottenham was worth the wait.

Ange Postecoglou has kept the versatile full-back on the sidelines so far this season, but Pedro Porro's lackluster performance in recent weeks means 'club signing' Spence has been handed a rare opportunity at St. Mary's.

And boy, did he make the most of it.

The right-back bagged an assist within 40 seconds after cleverly tipping Flynn Downes and finding James Maddison behind. He showed poise in possession and comfort when tasked with drifting downfield. Expect to see a lot more from the 24-year-old moving forward.

Jacob Murphy

Murphy has long been derided as not up to the required level for a club with Newcastle's ambitions, but the winger is Eddie Howe's trusted lieutenant and played a major role in the Magpies' 4-0 defeat of Leicester.

Murphy struggled in the first 30 minutes of Saturday's triumph and missed a good chance before coolly slotting home the opener from the edge of the area. The winger's efforts were tireless down the right flank and his straight runs troubled the Leicester defence. He rounded off Newcastle's victory with an emphatic finish on the clock.

Ismaila Sarr, Daniel Munoz

Oliver Glasner struggled with the departure of Michael Olise at the start of his first full season in charge of Crystal Palace, but the Eagles have a new attacking star in Ismaila Sarr.

The former Watford winger has come alive in recent weeks and was in contention on Sunday as Palace sought bragging rights in the M23 derby.

A lightning-quick outlet who can work all day, Sarr terrorized Brighton's Lewis Dunk at the Amex and pinched the defender's pocket en route to scoring the second goal. Earlier, Sarr benefited from a superb delivery from Tyrick Mitchell to score Palace's second after Trevoh Chalobah had opened the scoring.

Perhaps it was the striker's best performance Premier League career.

Antonee Robinson

Only Bukayo Saka and Mohamed Salah have registered more assists in the Premier League this season than the Fulham left-back. Coincidentally, it was these two players who recently went to Robinson Prison.

In back-to-back weeks, Robinson has tamed two of the league's best. At Anfield, the USMNT international kept Salah in check throughout - although the Egyptian king did register an assist for Cody Gakpo - as he wreaked havoc down the left wing.

Robinson opened Andreas Pereira with a pinpoint cross from the back post and made a superb run to get behind Jarell Quansah before teeing up Rodrigo Muniz for the goal.

It was a relentless performance in all phases.

James Maddison

Madison, much like the Lilywhites, has been hot and cold this season, with Dejan Kulusevski emerging as Ange Postecoglou's main creator.

However, there's no denying that Tottenham are the superior side when Maddison purrs. Theirs 5-0 defeat of Southampton he had the playmaker's fingerprints all over him.

A strike inside 40 seconds set the tone and Maddison rounded off a superb first-half performance with a superb second goal. He made the most of Southampton's inability to track runners from deep, but the Saints couldn't get close to him even when he was in sight.

Spurs were brilliant on Sunday and Maddison was a key facilitator.

Amad Diallo

In the 87th minute, a nice Manchester Derby and Amad was not even close to appearing as a competitor in this ranking. City looked set for a rare victory before Bjelokovac latched onto Matheus Nunes' tame pass back to Ederson.

The chance appeared to have gone when Ederson halted Amad's momentum but Nunes, looking to atone for his first mistake, doubled down on the United player, who used his body smartly to take contact, in the box.

Bruno Fernandes equalized, but there was time for Amad to make Sunday's derby around him. In absence omitted duo Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, it was the unassuming Ivorian who quickly darted in behind the City defence, latched on to Lisandro Martinez's pass, rounded Ederson and finished brilliantly.

The 22-year-old has shown flashes this calendar year and has proven to be an excellent full-back option already under Ruben Amorim. His late heroics at the Etihad could prove to be the start of something very special for Amado in Manchester.
