Rashford ready for 'new challenge' away from Manchester United

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has revealed that he is ready to leave his boyhood club following his exclusion from the Manchester derby by coach Ruben Amorim.

Rashford, along with team-mate Alejandro Garnacho, has been left out of United's squad for Sunday's game against Manchester City, with Amorim making it clear he expects his players to meet certain "standards".

The England international has faced increasing criticism for his performances and attitude in the 2022-23 campaign.

Amorim's gutsy call to remove Rashford and Garnacho eventually paid off as United came from behind to beat their rivals 2-1.

After this decision, there are reports that Rashford may leave the club in 2025 and there is also talk of a loan move.

In an interview with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford said he felt "ready for a new challenge".

He said: “For me personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.

“It's not going to be 'no hard feelings' when I leave. You won't have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. I am like a man.

“If I know a situation is bad, I don't make it worse. I've seen how other players have quit in the past and I don't want to be that guy. I will make a statement when I leave and it will be from me."

When asked if Rashford would always be a "Red", he replied: "Yes! 100% 100%"

Rashford admits it is a tough pill to swallow as he contemplates being out of Derby.

"It's disappointing to be out of the derby," he said. But it happened, we won the game, let's move on. It's sad, but as I get older, I'm a person who can handle obstacles. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best when I'm next.”

Despite his recent struggles, Rashford remains confident in his ability to adapt to Amorim's system, and while he can play in multiple positions, some roles come naturally to him.

"I have the qualities to play in all three positions. Some positions are more natural for me, some positions I need to train more and do a little tactical (work). The left suits me best," he explained.

“Left 10 still suits me but you have to adjust your game. The biggest skill set is adaptability. People may not see it, but eventually they will see me playing in different positions under all managers.

“I'm in the middle of my career. I don't expect my peak to be now. I've spent nine years in the Premier League so far and it's taught me a lot, it's helped me grow as a player and as a person.

“So for the past nine years, I have no regrets. Because I take things day by day, sometimes bad things happen, sometimes good things happen, so I have no regrets moving forward. I try to keep a good balance. 100% (the best is yet to come). That's my opinion."
