David Benavidez says he has too much experience for WBA light heavyweight champion 'every time' David Morrell and hopes to knock him out in the later rounds of their head-to-head on February 1.
Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) believes he has won against Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) because of the number of opponents he has faced in his 11-year professional career. of "50-50 fights." He won't mention who he fought while working in fights that are said to be equal money, but that's what he claims.
Morrell has a slight advantage in youth, power, technical skills, and mobility over Benavidez. It also has little wear and tear. Benavidez takes a lot of punches because he's a volume puncher who hangs in front of his opponents and overwhelms them with shots.
He lost that form because he was relegated to competing at 168 against smaller and older fighters. Now that Benavidez is fighting where he needs to be, at 175, he's going to be challenged and he's going to have to change his style to keep from slipping.
Benavidez vs. Morrell will head on PBC on Premier video PPV on February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
"I want to show that I'm the best in the world, the only one there besides Bivol and Beterbiev is David Morrell. That's the best fight I've seen. It's not easy fight. It's probably the hardest one besides Beterbiev and Bivol," said David Benavidez Tobin.
"He told me twice, saying I was running from him. I had to take his temperature and let him know I'd be here all night. I'm not running from anyone, and after this fight, he will know who is the best David," Benavidez said of Morrell.
"Canelo is blocking my opportunity to achieve greatness. I think now everyone is protecting his O. For me, if you want to make the right money, you have to go to the fights really hard. You have to show people what you're made of. That's what I'm doing for this fight."
Canelo also outworked Benavidez and Morrell. He doesn't like Benavidez. If he was fighting good opponents to build his fan base, Canelo would have fought him. The guys that Canelo fights are the fans, and they bring something to the table. We've seen how Benavidez couldn't sell his fight on PPV against Demetrius Andrade on a loaded card, and the event's numbers were poor.
“Every fight I've had, it's been a tough, competitive fight where it's been 50-50. But I'm going to do my job and show the world why I'm the best," said Benavidez.
Benavidez has NOT had 50-50 fights in his 11 year career. He's the one who loves his fights, that's the problem. He's put Morrell at risk until now, and he's still there because he's so right.
Benavidez's best wins:
– Demetrius Andrade: 35
– Cabbage Plant
– Oleksandr Gvozdyk: 37
– Anthony Dirrell: 38
– Ronald Gavril
“That's the difference between me and him. He fought people who weren't very good. That's why he finishes them early," Benavidez said of Morrell. "I have fought with wise men, warriors, and my end has come."
Morrell's most recent opponent, Radivoje Kalajdzic, is better than anyone Benavidez has fought. Gvozdyk was a good fighter before he retired in 2019, but he was out for four years before returning in 2023. This is not the first time Gvozdyk has fought Benavidez.
Gvozdyk knocked out three second-tier heavyweights before facing Benavidez on May 15, going the 12-round distance against him in a fight that produced a payoff. . That was a bad performance by Benavidez, who was not quite as good as Artur Beterbiev in his fight against Gvozdyk on October 18, 2019.
"My experience with him is to enter and try to score quickly. I am 100% focused. I know that this fight will not be easy, but it may end in the next rounds," said Benavidez for his fight with Morrell.
