Argentine President Javier Millay is likely to attend Trump's inauguration

Argentine President Javier Millay is likely to attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump in January, according to an Argentine diplomatic official. Although his attendance has not been publicly confirmed, the official said all signs point to Miley traveling to Washington, D.C., for the swearing-in ceremony.

A spokesman for Trump's transition team did not respond to a request for comment.

Miley, a Trump aide who was elected last year and describes himself as an "anarcho-capitalist", published on Monday at X a link to news report and wrote "Make Argentina Great Again Make America Great Again," adding a handshake emoji between US and Argentina flag emojis.

Bloomberg News was the first to report Milei's presence at the opening ceremony, citing an Argentine government spokesman.

Miley is the first world leader expected to be in Washington for the Jan. 20 event, although others are preparing to join. CBS News reported last week that Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom Trump personally invited to the inauguration, was unlikely to be presentaccording to multiple sources.

Trump confirmed on Monday that he had exchanged letters with Xi and would "love to have him (at the inauguration), but there hasn't been much discussion" about whether he would accept the invitation.

Trump added that he had received calls from more than 100 world leaders since winning the election and, when asked specifically, said he had not invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Millay met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago shortly after the November election.
