Chelsea are considering re-signing England defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this January, according to Simon Phillips.

The Blues let Guehi leave as a child, but he established himself at Palace, becoming a key player at Selhurst Park, where he also became first choice for the England national team.

However, it could be that Chelsea will make a move to bring Guehi back, and Phillips says the west London giants could have a chance in the deal.

As Chelsea have a decision to sell the 24-year-old, it could allow them to make a successful signing at a lower price than their rivals.

Guehi is a good player, but Chelsea don't look like they need a big signing in central defense during their good start to the season.

The Blues are flying high under Enzo Maresca, with Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi all looking good options and providing plenty of depth.

If Guehi were to return, it would mean that CFC would have to sell another defender to make room, and although it is unclear whether he would go straight to Maresca's starting XI.

Guehi would do well to wait for the likes of Liverpool, who are also a very competitive club going in the right direction right now.

The Reds have the problem that Virgil van Dijk is close to the end of his contract, and he is still not growing, so there is an opportunity for a young player like Guehi to replace him in the long term.
