Iranian/US citizens charged in Iranian drone strike that killed US service member

Two Iranian men have been charged in connection with a deadly drone strike earlier this year that killed three U.S. service members and injured dozens more.

Mahdi Mohammed al-Sadigui was arrested in Massachusetts and is expected to appear in court on Monday. Another suspect, Mohammad Abedinajafabadi, was arrested in Italy and is being held by Italian authorities, federal prosecutors said.

The charges are related to the deadly attack on U.S. forces, the first since January 28. Israel-Hamas War Starting in October 2023.

The soldiers are deployed in Jordan in support of Operation Resolve, the U.S. military's name for its war in the West Bank. islamic state Terrorist organization.

Rivers, 46, served in the Army Reserve as a house electrician; Sanders, 24, and Moffitt, 23, worked as a horizontal construction engineer.

In response to the deadly attack, the United States launched retaliatory strikes against more than 85 targets. iraq and syria Attack Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and its affiliated militias.

Targets include command and control operations, intelligence centers, militia rockets, missiles, unmanned vehicle depots and supply chain facilitiesU.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said at the time.

The soldier's death marks an escalation of violence against U.S. forces in the Middle East. At the time, the Biden administration blamed the attack on U.S. support for Israel in its ongoing war with Hamas.
