I don't remember when the last time was a glass of freshly pressed orange juice. Maybe a few years ago when I tried to press my own juice at home. I was astonished how many orange I needed, at least three medium navels for orange for a whole eight ounces of bottles. The juice was fresh and pasty with shiny sweets. No matter how delicious it was, I simply couldn't justify the costs, time and work I needed for a single portion, and except for the most special events, I went back to the bottled things.
Although there are plenty of opportunities in grocery stores, these are not always good and often disappointed with some commercial fruit juices because of the bitter one-dimensional taste. Nevertheless, I like to sip a refreshing glass of fruit juice from time to time, and I wanted to find the best possible opportunity when I just can't disturb the fresh press. To find the best purchased orange juice, we tasted six different juices that you will probably find at the local supermarket.
We focused on this test on pulp -free fruit juices. We did not even consider even concentrated fruit juices, although we took one as a check, and this has gained the lowest point with all our employees. This is not surprising, as the concentrate fruit juice is filtered, dried and pasteurized and then renovated with water. You can say that it once comes from an orange, but it was so processed that you can't be fooled, you think that the intense, synthetic flavor is freshly tightened.
After narrowing the field on six non-concentrates, paste-free orange juice, they were elaborated for our tasters without knowing which brands are trying, and after fighting for heartburn, which involves six glasses of orange juice, which has six glasses of juice. Empty stomach, we have found a general winner that can be sipped at home or mixed into drinks such as green smoothie Or boozy SangritaOr
The criteria
Regardless of whether the fresh or in the store bought, the orange juice must be balanced: sweet but not artificially and should not be too sour. It should be pleasantly bitter and not bitter and should be as taste as if it was freshly shook it from the actual fruit. For many orange juice manufacturers, this can be a difficult question. The commercial juice is pasteurized, and while this process eliminates dangerous bacteria and extends the shelf life of the juice, it removes most of the taste.
In his book Reassuredwhich is immersed in the history of the orange juice, journalist Alissa Hamilton explains how the commercial orange juice is made. According to Hamilton, the brands add a “flavor pack” – the oils and essences from orange mixed with a flavor – to pasteurize to help restore the flavor and aroma of freshly pressed stuff. By the time the juice has reached the grocery store, all the “fresh” taste it detects is completely manufactured, so simply the fact that commercial orange juice can be made and sold. With this in mind, we could say that the purpose of this taste test is to identify the orange juice brand with a taste of the most freshly squeezed juice.

By finishing
Based on the results of the taste test, the main conclusion I can get to: our editors prefer freshly pressed orange juice than commercially produced orange juice, even if it means that it is hand -pressing the citrus by hand. However, the juices were not from the concentrate and were not as taste as the concentrate. Buying or making freshly tasteful juice is freshly pressed. But if none can be an option, both Wegmans and Simply Orange are a good opportunity.
Our testing methodology
All flavors are completely hidden and do without discussion. Tasters taste the samples in random order. For example, the tasting will first taste the 1, while the B tasting will first taste the 6 sample. The purpose of this is to prevent the fatigue of the palate unfairly securing one pattern. The tasters are asked to fill out the tasting pages, which rank the samples for various criteria. All data are tabled and the results are calculated without an editorial input to provide as little portrayal as possible.
